Pick the weight up by using good squat mechanics – you can put it in front of you if it’s too difficult to lift from the side. Keep your core activated and walk as normal as possible. Do not bounce the weight off of your leg. If you find you are taking quicker/shorter steps or your feet are moving more to the midline (tandem gait), then the weight is too much.
