In this exercise, the uninjured arm does all of the work and the injured arm just holds on to the stick. You can stand, sit, or lay on your back, whichever is most comfortable. 1. Use the stick to lift your injured arm as high as you can in front of you without pain (flexion). 2. Use the stick to lift your injured arm as high as you can out to the side without pain (abduction). 3. Use the stick to lift your injured arm forward and on a slight angle toward the side as high as you can without pain (scaption). 4. With your elbows bent and at your side, use the stick to rotate your forearm away from your body without twisting through your back (external or lateral rotation).
